CONCEPTUAL DESCRIPTION
These handcrafted mirrors combine glazed ceramics, steel, wood and glass. Using a minimal color palette, they appear as monolithic pieces, in which materials seem to intertwine into a single form. Most of the ceramic elements are covered with metallic or stony glazes to merge with the surrounding steel and the anthracite, bronze or silver mirror surfaces. For some pieces, more pronounced colors are used, like dark translucent blues and greens. With their subtle, dark reflections, the objects appear as sculptures rather than mirrors. Combining ceramics and mirrors is a way of playing with opacity, transparency and depth. The ceramics form an opaque foreground that the eye cannot penetrate. The mirror, on the other hand, invites us to dive deeper into the background, imagining spaces that might be hidden behind the object.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The three-dimensional ceramics are all hand-modelled. Some glazes were developed according to own recipes, the intention being to create a glaze with both a mineral and metallic appearance. Once fired, the ceramic pieces are mounted on a black-stained wooden structure, like the anthracite, bronze or silver mirrors. The steel frame is cut, welded and wire-brushed at a later stage to fit perfectly with the other elements.
